United Free Worlds Review

ufw.jpg

When it comes to the fantasy genre it’s very hard to satisfy the fanboy. I know, I am one of them and it is very difficult to fit in everything that we love. All that is near and dear to our heart in one issue? I don’t think so. I don’t think this is the intention of ‘Unite Free Worlds’ from Fantasy Prone Comics. They definitely did a good job at catching my attention though.

It’s interesting that they took modern warfare and put a spin on it. Now without giving too much detail up (Go and read the book ya panda jerks!) I will talk about what makes this a good book. First, you have the artwork. Artwork is hard to do in the world of comics. It’s a visual medium. Granted comics in the 90’s took it too far with this unrealistic world women and men in the spandex donned suits that we oh so loved to turn the page to. You know what I mean. Now I’m just getting off track. .

I feel that the artwork is not too detailed but its not lacking in any detail. There are a couple of two page spreads that make you really want to investigate every inch of the page. Trust me, this is a good thing! As far as the writing goes kudos to Blake Leibel for filling in an epic amount of story in such a double issue. Good solid writing and a story that will make you wonder ‘What’s gonna happen next?’ .

There are numerous comics out in the world (Yes, more than just Marvel and DC) and it’s a tough business to get into. Especially from a company that is just starting out. I give props to those who try and come equipped with knowledge and an understanding of this world. I’m afraid that one day people will praise this business for it being an easy sell. That’s not what comic are about and I don’t like the idea of a world where Comics are going to be ‘Cool’ they are ours and we need to hold on to them with every single clutch we can get our hands on. I am excited to see what happens in the next issue. .

In closing, please check out ‘United Free Worlds’ from Fantasy Prone Comics. Support independent comics and enjoy. That’s what it’s about here. Fun!.

Vegas Baby!!!

So lately I have been going to Vegas a lot... not for work, more for just fun with friends. Fun that has been occuring every month. The croupiers @ Bally's casino are starting to recognize me. Kind of funny...anyway, I just returned from yet another trip to Vegas this past weekend. This time for work. By work I mean playing in a tournament with the guys from San Francisco Optx, Clown and Moe, in Counter-strike Source. Needless to say it was a great time!! You guys can catch the entire trip this Friday @ 4PM Eastern right here on Arcade! See you then!

GTA 4

Is anyone else having a hard time waiting for this game to come out? I swear I feel like I want to pull a Cartman and freeze myself until it comes out. It's really making me a little bit crazy... So many things to be excited about with Grand Theft Auto 4 its really hard to pick just one. For me though right now it has to be the multiplayer. There are something like 7 or 8 different modes you can play!!! That makes my brain hurt. I really am going to be dead to the world once this game comes out next week. NOT GOING TO LEAVE THE HOUSE FOR DAYS!!!! Hurry up and be April 29th already!

Arcade's New Season.

So we are in full swing of the new season of Arcade... What do you guys think? Tell me what you like and what you dont like. I like to know what you guys think so we can make the show better! Do you have a favorite segment? I love the whole show, but so far for me at least I'm really diggin' on the War Room. Thoughts? Make sure you tune in Friday for a new episode of Arcade @ 4PM Eastern. Our producer Devin gets a very special suprise in our Grudge Match this week playing Call of Duty 4 for the 360... It's a great episode. MAKE SURE YOU WATCH!!!

Swamped in the land of gaming...

So many games!!!! Arghhh! I am totally falling behind here. I have been playing too many games, I can't keep up! To start off I have been checking out EA's Army of Two for the PS3... not sure how I feel about this one yet.

So far I have only been able to play with an AI controlled partner and the results have been pretty lackluster. I need more time with this one and a friend to play with.

Up next Eye of Judgment for the PS3, I know this one has been out for a while but I never got a chance to check it out until now. This game is pretty fun. Card game that you play using the Playstation Eye... creatures come to life out of the cards on screen. Pretty dope stuff. I have been having a bit of trouble with the eye pick up the cards but I need to toy with the lighting in the room to get it right. But overall its pretty fun. I haven't figured out the game completely, but I'm close.

Finally on to the third game. I'm trying to get through. Super Smash Bros. Brawl... this game is amazing. I love it!!! I have made my way through the single player side-scrolling adventure mode entitled The Subspace Emissary. I was blown away to discover how deep this game mode actually was. It's crazy to think that a game that is meant to be a fighting game has a whole single player mode that has a fleshed out story to accompany it. Mind blowing. This game has so many extras in it that I think its going to take me a while to get through... :)

SmashBros.jpg

I'm guessing it's going to take me a bit to get through these (since they are all pretty in depth games) but check back for reviews soon...

P.S. The new Arcade is shaping up to be quite the killer show! I think you are all going to be happy when you see the AMAZING changes we have made to the show.

Devil May Cry 4

nero-devil-may-cry-4-300.jpg

Capcom’s 'Devil May Cry' is back and hitting the next-gen consoles in 'Devil May Cry 4'. Our review today will be focusing on the Playstation 3 version of the game. The series has suffered a bit in the last two games that have been released so I was really hoping that this time around Capcom could recapture what made the original 'Devil May Cry' so damn great. Luckily for all of us they did. DMC 4 addresses all of the issues that the previous two games had. It feels like something new and that is a pleasant change of pace.

'Devil May Cry 4' may surprise some people when you pop it in and realize that you aren’t playing as the original character from the series Dante… this time around you are taking control of a character named Nero who looks very familiar to the man they call Dante. Nero is on a quest to rescue his love. Dante makes appearances here and there throughout your quest, you even start off the game fighting him in a battle that is supposed to teach you the games controls. Now for all of you that are upset and pissy about the fact that you don’t get to play as Dante… calm down. You do get to play as him but later on in the game. You can all take a collective sigh now. It’s actually refreshing to play as the new character Nero partly due to the fact that you can now use the Devil Bringer, which ism a Nero Demonic arm. You can use the arm to pick up and toss around enemies as well as using it as a grappling hook of sorts to get from one area to another. While lots of rabid fanboys will probably hate the idea of controlling Nero and not Dante for a good portion of the game, trust me when I tell you that it is still fun to play as Nero.

The controls are for lack of a better word - perfect, you can pull off some extremely devastating combinations by using your sword, gun and devil bringer. As you are pulling off these combos you will have a gage that shows you the level that your combo is currently at. If you get hit the gage goes back to the start. The great thing is you will actually want to pull off the combos. The game has a great selection of unlockable attacks and secondary skills that will help you dish out even more devastating attacks.

Graphics in the game will make your jaw drop. The 'Devil May Cry' series has a history of providing some stellar graphics and 'Devil May Cry 4' is no exception. The game definitely takes advantage of being on the next-gen systems; in fact this might be one of the best looking titles for the PS3 so far. All of the in-game graphics are pulled off flawlessly and nicely for the most part. There are only a few places in the game where things bog down just a bit. The cinematic cut scenes are just amazing; I really love the fact that after some extremely intense battles you can take a break and enjoy a movie quality storyline accompanied with amazing graphics to boot.

The sound is done well for the most part… unfortunately sometimes the voice-acting can be a bit cheesy. One thing that really makes me a bit crazy is the fact that whenever enemies are around this hardcore rock music kicks in and plays until you dispatch them. Now, I wouldn’t have a problem with that normally, but it’s the same damn song over and over and over again. The song will start over from the beginning even if you just got done finishing off a group of enemies. It can get a little bit ridiculous.

The games' design is well done; unfortunately the game developers seem like they got a bit lazy. After you go through the game as Nero you have to go back and play the exact same levels and bosses over again as Dante. While it's fun to play with different moves, it just seemed like a cop out to not include any new levels or at least expand on the ones that were included. Now, while I do say that, you are going to want to go back and play the game again on a harder difficulty with Dante and wade through all of the levels again. On a side note, the game does feature some awkward camera angles at times, not a game breaker but it did bother me a bit.

Overall I have to say that 'Devil May Cry 4' for the Playstation 3 is an extremely solid game. While it’s no 'God of War', if you’re a fan of puzzle solving, platforming and action than 'Devil Nay Cry 4' is for you. We here at Arcade give 'Devil May Cry 4' for the Playstation 3 eight out of ten mushrooms.
